When it comes to skin and hair, beauty is directly linked to the health of a person. No one likes seeing hair fall, grey hair, or unhealthy hair, especially when it occurs prematurely. However, according to Ayurveda, maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle is detrimental to maintaining your hair’s natural splendor. With people becoming more aware of the damage caused by chemical products, Ayurvedic remedies are gaining a lot of momentum across the world.
The ideal hair regime consists of 3 main steps according to Ayurveda:
Effective Ayurvedic Remedies for Healthy Hair:
1. Bhringraj, The Herb King:
Bhringraj translates to the ‘king of all herbs’ and is known for healing many different diseases and ailments, including hair fall. It is known for promoting hair growth and is also said to reverse balding! It can even prevent premature greying of hair and is commonly found as a powder or oil. It also has a soothing effect on the scalp and can help people with sleep problems.
Bhringraj is also commonly used to regulate pitta and better metabolism. You can blend bhringraj leaves or powder with water to make a paste and apply it to your scalp. You can also use the best ayurvedic hair oil of Bhringraj and massage your scalp with it. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes before washing and conditioning your hair. You can do this thrice a week to see definitive results.
2. Amla:
Amla is used for various purposes, including purifying blood and treating indigestion, apart from improving scalp health. It is a conditioning substance that helps eradicate dandruff and scalp aggravation. You can use a paste made of amla powder and water or use the oil in conjunction with shikakai. Massage your hair using the paste or oil and leave it for thirty minutes before rinsing it off. You can rinse it off with shikakai and repeat this thrice a week.
3. Neem:
Neem has been used for a long time to treat skin disorders and hair loss. Regular application of neem to the scalp enhances blood circulation and reinforces the roots, promoting hair growth. Neem is also used to prevent lice and dandruff. When the scalp suffers from dryness, scaliness, dandruff, eczema, psoriasis, and excess sebum, the hair roots suffer. This leads to hair fall, and neem can prevent this by soothing and conditioning the scalp, promoting healthy hair growth.
You can make a paste with dried neem leaves or massage neem oil directly on your scalp and leave it for thirty minutes before rinsing it. You can alternatively boil neem leaves in water for fifteen minutes. Once the mix is cooled, you can strain the liquid and pour it on your hair after you have washed and conditioned your hair. Do not rinse this solution away.
4. Ashwagandha:
The Indian winter cherry is a brilliant natural remedy for multiple ailments apart from hair regrowth. It is a known stress reliever and is anti-bacterial, and helps control cortisol levels in the scalp. It also promotes antioxidant properties and helps with circulation, curbing dandruff. You can use pure ashwagandha oil or make a paste using the powder, water, and dried amla powder. Massage it into your scalp and wash it off after thirty minutes, thrice a week. You can also consume ashwagandha orally and still see very similar results.
5. Hot Oil Massage With Ayurvedic Oils:
By heating Ayurvedic oils like coconut, bhringraj, amla, sesame, almond, arnica, or Brahmi, one can see a rapid improvement in blood circulation in the scalp. You can blend multiple oils or use them together and heat them till they are a little warmer than lukewarm. Apply this to your scalp and hair and massage it for 15 minutes. Leave the blend for 30 minutes before washing it off with shampoo and lukewarm water. Do not use hot oil or water as it can damage your hair and scalp.
