Following the popular response to Nintendo’s release of old classic versions of NES and SNES consoles, Atari is releasing a new console in the coming months!
Atari has announced in an online newsletter the new Atari VCS, the new console in development. The release video got us the chills with nostalgia, watch it here.
Atari announced the new product at this year’s E3 gaming industry convention, but very few details were announced until the newsletter revealed photos of the system with just enough detail to get old-school gaming fans excited. The photos reveal a system inspired by classic Atari design, with an elegant flow of ribbed lines and a raised back.
“Our objective is to create a new product that stays true to our heritage while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari,”
wrote the Atari project team.
The new system will come in two designs: a sleek wooden model or a black and red version. Not many details have been released, but the team promises that both editions will have HDMI and SD and four USB ports.
The ports as the team explains indicate modern internal specifications. So while retro gaming fans can enjoy the titles they grew up on, the new model will also deliver modern gaming content.
The new design introduces the possibility of new Atari games or even third-party titles. New details will slowly emerge over the coming months, with information on specs, games, features, pricing, and release date to come.
The system has yet to be fully detailed and while we’re excited about the possibility of the a new console capable of playing Atari’s greatest hits like RollerCoaster Tycoon, Driver and NeverWinter Nights, the fact that so little is known about the console is worrying
Atari has opened its doors to the public to announce that the Atari VCS will be available to pre-order starting on May 30, 2018 and will be sold at a special pre-sale price of $199. Best of all, Atari says backers who place an order early will receive units by Spring 2019.
We can’t wait for the new console to come out. It brings a lot of Nostalgia, don’t you think so too? Leave us your comment in the section below….
